More Aurora

We got quite a show in the sky  last night here in Limestone, Maine. I’ll post some more photos of it (and videos) soon, but I wanted to post one photo in the meantime while I’m working on the others. I filled up two memory cards during the evening.

“All Things Considered” interviewed a professor from the University of West Georgia who said he saw it from his home. Of course, it was cloudy in Seattle.

How long do you have to expose to get a picture like that?

Yeah, I’ve seen some of the photos from Maryland and Arkansas! This was 10 seconds at ISO 200 and f/4 with a 15 mm lens. 10-20 seconds seems to be the best combination of preserving spatial detail while getting enough photons to actually see the structure above the noise.
