About me

brian_cadillacMy name is Brian. I am 30 years old. I live in northern Maine with my wife Beth, and two cats. This blog will chronicle events from my day to day life, and topics related to hobbies of mine. These hobbies include photography, home brewing (beer and cider), bird watching, cooking, playing the banjo, violin and concertina, and spinning and knitting. I have a PhD in physics; I’ve done primarily theoretical and computational work related to nuclear fusion and “space weather” (aurora, sunspots, magnetic storms). Starting this fall I will be teaching physics at the Maine School of Science and Math.

Welcome to Maine, Brian and Beth,

As the parent of an MSSM alum as well as an MSSM first-year sophomore, I hope you enjoy the school as much as we have over the past 7 years. You and Larry Berz should have plenty in common as he is an astronomer at the Francis Malcom Science Center as well as a teacher of astronomy at the school. He is well loved by his students and campers. Being on the Crown of Maine, the views are amazing. We live about four hours south of the school in the Augusta area.

    See you in the Fall.’

Thank you, Beth, and thank you for visiting my blog.

My wife is actually an MSSM alum as well (class of ’99). I met Larry Berz a few weeks ago, and very much look forward to working with him and to meeting you and your family in the Fall.

    Dear Brian and Beth,
You sound like a “perfect fit” for our students. I loved reading your blog (and your attitude about moving to Maine and teaching at MSSM) and I look forward to meeting you this year as well. My son will graduate in May of 2012. Comforting to know your wife is an MSSM alum so she knows just what she is “getting into” moving to the other end of the Earth! I hate the LENGTH of the drive up there, but I love Limestone and the surrounding area so much. I wish I was the one going to school. 🙂 Best wishes to you and your family.

      Debbie,

Thank you for your kind words, and for visiting my blog. I look forward to meeting you and Phillip this year, too. It was a long drive up (although I’m sure it felt longer to our cats!), but it is indeed beautiful here. It’s true, we might not have made this move if Beth weren’t already familiar with what we’re “getting into” as you say :-), but I think we’re going to enjoy living in the county, and I’m very excited about the job.

Best wishes to you and your family, and I hope you’re all having a good summer,

      Brian
